After Bryce Young’s poor first campaign, the Carolina Panthers may add a quarterback this offseason.
The Carolina Panthers had higher expectations for the former Alabama star quarterback in his rookie season after moving up to pick Bryce Young first overall. Even so, the Panthers aren’t considering giving up on their 22-year-old quarterback simply because there were a few growing pains.
However, that doesn’t mean first-year head coach Dave Canales won’t use the chance to push or assist his new student by adding another quarterback to the depth chart.
The Panthers fan base should keep a careful eye on Drew Lock, said ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who is a free agency. Fowler mentioned Lock’s “strong ties” to Coach Canales, the quarterbacks coach for Seattle in 2022, with whom he collaborated.
Lock was originally selected by the Denver Broncos with the 42nd overall choice in the 2019 NFL Draft. Subsequently, he was acquired by the Seahawks in the Russell Wilson blockbuster. Then, Lock decided to re-sign with the Seahawks for $4 million last year when he was scheduled to become a free agent.
After Geno Smith had an injury, he ended up starting two games. Lock averaged 135.8 yards per game and completed 63.2% of his passes to lead the Seahawks to a 1-1 record. He tossed three touchdown passes.
Lock has mostly served as a backup quarterback, but he has made 23 NFL starts and might be a useful addition to the Panthers. Remember that the Panthers now have Andy Dalton as their best backup quarterback, but it’s probable that Canales would also like to have a familiar face like Lock.
