Colin Cowherd pushes for the Minnesota Vikings to pick Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy

The quarterback situation of the Minnesota Vikings is still up in the air as they still couldn’t find a good solution to the issue with Kirk Cousins’ contract.
With the team likely looking for a new player to call QB1, they will likely be looking at free agency or the draft to get their future quarterback. With the number of quarterbacks available in the season, it would be hard to predict where the Vikings will end up with as their first-choice gunslinger under center.
However, one popular analyst suggests that the Vikings get one player who can become the difference maker for the team’s Super Bowl hopes.
Popular NFL analyst Colin Cowherd is suggesting that the Minnesota Vikings should be gunning for Michigan pass-slinger JJ McCarthy that he should become the new quarterback who will take the team to a Super Bowl-winning run.
wrote about Cowherd’s reasoning behind the team gunning for the former Wolverine to become their franchise quarterback:
Much cheaper version of Kirk Cousins wth more athletic ability. The team’s got an offensive head coach, this would allow them — with a cheaper option at quarterback — to retain Justin Jefferson, and they have Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson. Those are good weapons, plus a great left tackle [Christian Darrisaw]. In that division, you’ve got to score points,” Cowherd wrote.
The quarterback who ranked tenth in the 2023 Heisman voting had a solid senior season that quarterbacked the Jim Harbaugh-led team to a national title. He threw 240 passes for 2,991 yards and 22 touchdowns with four interceptions and a 167.4 QB rating.
However, there are questions about whether he’s the right man who can lead the Vikings to a deep playoff run. The fact that he didn’t make much of an impact in a deep Michigan roster would make some teams question whether he’s a capable quarterback who can make an impact on the NFL level.
If JJ McCarthy can convince the Vikings that he can become a worthwhile field general, it would be an interesting 2024 season for the team.
