5 things to know about new 49ers CB Isaac Yiadom
Cornerback Isaac Yiadom, who agreed to terms with the 49ers on a one-year contract, became yet another addition to the San Francisco 49ers defensive line on Friday.
Along with defensive linemen Leonard Floyd, Yetur Gross-Matos, Jordan Elliott, and Maliek Collins; linebacker De’Vondre Campbell; and defensive back Chase Lucas, Yiadom, 28, is the eighth defensive player added by the 49ers this week. Here are some things to be aware of as Yiadom starts playing for the 49ers.
Since entering the NFL, Yiadom (6-1, 188) has been something of a journeyman, but the 2023 season was his greatest to yet. With the New Orleans Saints past season, Yiadom participated in 17 games and ended up starting eight of them to assist relieve injured player Marshon Lattimore. In the end, he recorded one interception, fourteen passes defensed, and 37 tackles. Additionally, Yiadom limited quarterback completion rates to 48.9 percent when he was the target. Last season, he had an 81.1 grade on Pro Football Focus.
In the 2018 NFL Draft, Yiadom was selected by the Denver Broncos in the third round, making his NFL debut. Yiadom, a 2020 draft pick by the New York Giants, played two seasons with the Broncos after graduating from Boston College. Before being traded to the Green Bay Packers in 2021, he finished 16 games (10 starts) with the Giants with a total of 46 tackles and five passes defended. Yiadom was a reserve player for the Packers for one season before signing a contract with the Houston Texans in 2022. After being cut loose after just three games with the Texans, he played six games with the Saints in the latter half of 2022.
