An overview of the Las Vegas Raiders 2024 NFL offseason: Antonio Pierce was hired; what comes next?
Largest free agency acquisitions: DL Cornerback Gardner Minshew and Christian Wilkins
2023 Las Vegas Raiders season: 8-9; missed postseason
Overview: The Raiders experienced a newfound sense of hope and confidence after a difficult start to the season. After a 3-5 start, Josh McDaniels was fired as head coach, but things soon improved under Antonio Pierce’s temporary leadership.
Pierce was elevated from interim to full-time head coach after leading the club to a 5-4 victory and winning the respect of important players in the locker room. The team also brought in general manager Tom Telesco to assist with managing the roster’s composition. Getting a new quarterback is top priority in order to align with the new administration.
Who is present or absent? Josh Jacobs, a running back, has allegedly signed to a deal with the Green Bay Packers, therefore he’s out. Additionally gone in free agency are offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and defensive lineman Bilal Nichols. The Raiders were only able to retain James, one of their primary free agents.
What causes the holes? On Day 1 of NFL free agency, the Raiders made significant strides toward filling their defensive line void. After Christian Wilkins and them agreed to a four-year, $110 million contract, they made the largest defensive splash in free agency. As Jimmy Garoppolo leaves town, the team signs Gardner Minshew to a two-year contract, setting up a quarterback rivalry between Minshew and Aidan O’Connell. Whether the Raiders want to add a quarterback in the draft is still up in the air. To make things simpler for coordinator Patrick Graham, who oversaw an excellent defense in the second half of the season, they also need more juice at cornerback.
Is the money with them? It is. It is anticipated that the Raiders
Why they might disappear: Garoppolo will be benched following a disappointing and injury-plagued season in Las Vegas. Renfrow, who wasn’t used much in the previous season and makes sense as a cap casualty to free up a little more than $8 million, is doomed to suffer the same fate. An extra $3.4 million would be saved if Epps was released.
Why not him? Although the Raiders selected Tyree Wilson in the first round of the previous season, they still want a strong player to provide support for Maxx Crosby, their defensive stalwart. The Raiders would be wise to select Dallas Turner, a pass rusher with a lot of upside.
What has the potential to impact fantasy football this offseason?
On offense, the Raiders have a few talented players. Even now, Davante Adams is a proven star-caliber number one wide receiver. One of the most underappreciated flankers in the game, Jakobi Meyer is dependable throughout every stage of play. When Antonio Pierce took over as head coach, both Josh Jacobs and Zamir White produced well in the run game, and rookie tight end Michael Mayer showed promise.
With the 2024 NFL Draft just over a month away, the offseason is in full swing. Although the draft will be the main topic of discussion for the next few weeks, free agency has altered public perception of the draft because it has allowed some teams to fix gaps before the draft. First up, we have a rookie quarterback who was selected highly who is trying to turn around his career against an experienced player.
