‘Kam Bam’: New Rams DB Curl Brings ‘Violence’ to Secondary.

A silver chain gleamed around Kamren Curl’s neck as he sat in a spinning chair at the Los Angeles Rams headquarters on Monday.

The three-letter pendant, BAM, is suspended from the chain.

“Kam Bam is just an old high school nickname that stuck,” Curl remarked. “I like to follow it because I simply like it.” It’s simply a tiny moniker because it’s also my Instagram name.

Beneath the flashy jewelry and high school moniker, though, “bam” has a football connotation that refers to huge hits.

Curl established himself as a fixture in the ballroom and dropped ball carriers with the Washington Commanders. On Monday, he formally signed a two-year contract with the Rams.

His early conversations with Chris Shula, the defensive coordinator for the Rams, indicate that Los Angeles wants him to live up to the moniker “Bam” as much as possible.

In essence, Curl stated, “He told me he brought me in because he likes the way I play.” “I think that’s the only way to play football, and he likes the violence and physicality I bring to the game.”

Therefore, adding that to this defense will only strengthen it.

Curl was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft and has started 53 of 60 games in his career. He has also recorded three interceptions, 15 tackles for loss, and 385 tackles overall since joining the team.

Only linebacker Cody Barton had more tackles in 2023 than Curl (115), who was the second-leading tackler for the Commanders.

The 24-year-old Curl had nothing but praise for Rams head coach Sean McVay and his enthusiasm off the field. Shula, who is replacing Raheem Morris as defensive coordinator after the latter left to become head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, is also a favorite of Curl.
