A New Quarterback Joins the Philadelphia Eagles’ Congested Depth Chart for 2024.
Before training camp, the Eagles added another quarterback to their depth chart. Will Grier will soon agree to a one-year contract with Philadelphia.
In 2019, the Carolina Panthers drafted Will Grier. Since then, he has played for the LA Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals,
Kenny Pickett and Will Grier were both added by the Eagles in the same week. While Jalen Hurts continues to lead the starting offense, Pickett and Grier will both watch from the sidelines. Philadelphia also signed Tanner McKee to a four-year contract this past summer.
Eagles supporters might be curious about the future plans for each of these quarterbacks. It’s not typical for NFL teams to have four quarterbacks on the roster, particularly this early in the season. Grier and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore are back together now. Grier needs to guide all quarterbacks in learning Moore’s scheme.
Grier began his professional career in Florida, but after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances, he moved to West Virginia. Due to NCAA transfer regulations in effect at the time, he missed the 2016 season before starting in 2017. Grier tallied 3,864 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and eight interceptions by the end of his senior year in 2018.
Grier was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (100th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was cut from the Panthers in 2021. On September 1, 2021, the Dallas Cowboys claimed Grier off waivers to replace Ben DiNucci as the third-string quarterback behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush.
In 2023, the Bengals signed Grier to the practice squad but signed to the Patriots active roster soon after. He was waived on November 25, 2023, and re-signed to the practice squad three days later. December 2023, Grier was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers off the Patriots practice squad.
