Now he has more time to negotiate an extension and the opportunity to hit the open market if he does not.

He now has extra time to work out an extension, and should he choose not to, he will have the chance to go on the open market.

After spending six seasons with the team, Barkley, 27, will have the opportunity to assess his worth on the open market for the first time in his career. The formal start of the new league year is two days after the opening of the free agent negotiation window on Monday of next week.
