The NFL Draft, which will be highly significant for the Giants, is just a few weeks away. For weeks, there have been whispers that they would be interested in selecting a long-term quarterback in Round 1 to replace starting quarterback Daniel Jones. If those plans go through, there’s always a chance to choose an impact wide receiver or offensive lineman.
But with homegrown sensation Saquon Barkley leaving to go with rival Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, the team has a significant vacuum to fill at running back. Devin Singletary, a five-year league veteran, was signed by the team in March, but he has shown after five seasons that he is not a game-changing player out of the backfield and is better in a platoon.
The New York Giants may have their sights set on a particular player in the NFL Draft, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. The organization may have the opportunity to select a guy who has the potential to be a future star at the position.
“Florida State running back Trey Benson is drawing heavy interest from Giants per a league source, could see them making a move to land him,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday. Benson is projected to be drafted toward the middle or end of Round 2.
After tearing his ACL, MCL, lateral and medial meniscus, as well as a torn gracilis tendon a few years ago Benson finally returned to the Seminoles in 2023 and had a strong season for the top 10 team. He has explosive talents and the potential to be a legit RB1 in the league if his skills are developed further.
