He played with the Tennessee Titans for almost four seasons (2018–21) before signing with the Falcons, where he was coached by Smith, who was first the offensive coordinator and subsequently the tight ends coach. He participated in 57 Titans games.

He played for the Vikings and the Chicago Bears in 2016, seeing action on both the active roster and practice squad. He appeared in four games overall, hauling in two receptions for 13 yards. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, and Buffalo Bills.
As part of the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s 30th anniversary, Pruitt, a college football player at Southern Illinois, was named the finest tight end in the conference’s history.
After the 2013 and 2014 seasons, he was selected as a consensus First-Team All-American and was named the FSC Tight End of the Year by the CFPA in both of those seasons.
