Bengals and the Steelers could make a CB trade.
Perhaps the Pittsburgh Steelers will be able to acquire a first-round selection.
Pittsburgh This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t held back when it comes to aggression. Thus far, they have acquired Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears, traded wide receiver Diontae Johnson and quarterback Kenny Pickett, signed Russell Wilson, Patrick Queen, and DeShon Elliott—all of whom made significant headlines because of the size of the transactions.
They might not be done yet. The Steelers are reportedly considering wide receivers right now, with Brandon Aiyuk leading the reports. In case San Francisco and Pittsburgh are unable to reach an agreement, the Steelers can explore other options to obtain additional resources. It’s not going to be for a wide receiver.
However, this club might benefit from having a defensive back.
The Bengals selected defensive back Dax Hill with their first-round selection two years ago. as then, the team had to sign Vonn Bell and Geno Stone as he was demoted and did not perform well at safety. Now that Cincinnati has told him they will search elsewhere, the question is where he will play in 2024.
“I appreciate that, just having that conversation before things turned out and just hearing them out on why they did the things they did,” Hill stated to the team’s location. “Whatever occurred, it’s beyond my power. I’ll just try my hardest to present myself. I’m not very anxious about what lies ahead. I’ve experienced a lot in the past two years.
Nothing about it feels unfamiliar to me.
“We’ll just have to wait and see how things work out; everything’s kind of up in the air right now. I’m going to comply with everything they require of me. But I promise to give it everything I have, regardless of the role I end myself in.”
Mike Hilton is still under contract with Cincinnati, therefore there is no need for a slot cornerback. Hill has collegiate experience playing both positions.
However, he doesn’t exactly have a position to slot himself in the Bengals defense.
In the meanwhile, he would be right at home in Pittsburgh’s.
A slot cornerback is needed by the Steelers. Because of his diminished position in Cincinnati, Hill offers that with lots of upside and probably wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Why wouldn’t a trade work if he’s hoping for a chance and the Bengals are evaluating cost before deciding they don’t have room for him?
The Steelers are no strangers to intra-division transactions. While a Tee Higgins splash seems unlikely, Hill might be declining to the point where Cincinnati is prepared to take a chance.
Hill is worth a move for a Day 2 or lower pick because he has two years left on his rookie contract and could receive a fifth-year option. The Steelers should and could give Cincinnati a call if they think they would even entertain the idea.
