The 6-foot-10 center was a noteworthy addition to the Bulldogs’ roster on Monday.
The Georgia Bulldogs have been looking for a standout center this offseason after Russell Tchewa left. The Bulldogs’ search came to an end on Monday night when they finally located their center of the future.

Four-star center Somto Cyril has committed to the Bulldogs but intends to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft. The former Kentucky signee decided on the Bulldogs over the Wildcats, Georgia Tech, and Arkansas.

Cyril posted on social media, saying, in part, “Coach White and his staff were very detailed in their approach, and it was a great feeling being in a place that had such a family environment.” “I’ll be staying eligible to attend college and, to be clear, I’ll be joining the NBA Draft in 2024. I will take advantage of this chance to get much-needed input from NBA teams in May. This will provide my family and I access to the data, as well as my coaching team access to information about me before the 2024–2025 season.I am excited to represent the University of Georgia at work and am happy to have this opportunity.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Cyril is the second player from high school to join Georgia this offseason. He joins Mount St. Mary’s guards De’Shayne Montgomery and Dakota Leffew, Appalachian State forward Justin Abson, and five-star forward Asa Newell.

Cyril reopened his recruitment after Wildcats head coach John Calipari left for Arkansas, and now he is headed to Athens. Upon his June 2024 commitment to the Wildcats, he became the first commit from Kentucky.

According to 247Sports, Cyril is ranked as the tenth-best center prospect for the 2024 cycle. In addition, he is ranked as the 46th greatest player in the country and the fifth best in the state of Georgia.

On April 21, Cyril traveled to Georgia, and on April 25, he traveled to Georgia Tech. Even though he had a relationship with Calipari, he finally decided not to travel to Arkansas before making his choice.

Cyril, who is originally from Nigeria, played for Overtime Elite in Atlanta during his last two years of high school. His hand injury kept him out of action for a good chunk of his final year. In 2023–24, he averaged 9.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks per game, according to Overtime Elite’s online stats.
