Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has remained positive following the 3-3 draw with Hull City on Saturday evening, after claiming it was a ‘wonderful’ match despite his side dropping points.
The Tractor Boys took the lead on three separate occasions at the MKM Stadium, as George Hirst opened the scoring and Omari Hutchinson added a brace. However, each time McKenna’s side took the lead, they were swiftly pegged back by the Tigers following goals from Liam Delap, Ozan Tufan and Noah Ohio.
Leeds United currently remain in the top two within the Championship table, level on points with Ipswich in third place. Daniel Farke’s side would’ve welcomed the draw between Hull and Ipswich, given the disappointing 4-0 loss they suffered to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
Despite squandering the opportunity to move into the automatic promotion places, the Ipswich boss is remaining positive following the performance from his players. “It was a wonderful game and I saw so many of the things I love about this team and this club,” he told TownTV.
“The bravery, the spirit, some of the quality and seeing the players giving every ounce of themselves on the pitch once again.
“How we didn’t manage to get the fourth goal at times I’m not sure, but it’s a hard-fought point at a time when points are really hard to win. We played a team who threw absolutely everything at us with a lot of talent and quality, needing to get a result themselves from their last home game. We stood up to a lot of that.
“Of course we’re disappointed with the goals we conceded and could have had a couple more of our own, but there are lots of good things in the performance.”
Ipswich will face Coventry City in their next fixture in the Championship, while Leeds will prepare for a tough clash against Southampton – who they may go on to meet in the playoffs if they do not secure a spot in the top two.
