After transfer rumors involving West Brom and Everton, Sunderland was declared the front-runner to sign a West Ham striker.
Divin Mubama, a striker for West Ham, is expected to be signed by Sunderland this summer. The teenager’s contract at the London Stadium is about to expire.
During the January transfer window, the 19-year-old was connected to several teams; Everton, West Brom, and Sunderland were reportedly keeping an eye on him. After going through the West Ham academy, Mubama has only made five Premier League appearances this season and has played eighteen times for the first squad of the club. Following negotiations on the player’s future, it appears that the Hammers will let Mubama to depart the team; according to the Athletic, Sunderland is the “frontrunner” to sign him.
“The 19-year-old forward has received limited game time having rejected a contract offer at the start of the season,” the story continues. Despite adding four new strikers to their roster last summer, none of them have been able to have a big effect at the Championship level. As a result, in preparation for the upcoming campaign, the Black Cats will try to strengthen their attacking alternatives.
Given that David Moyes’ contract at West Ham is about to end this summer, there are also doubts over his future there. According to The Athletic, the former Sunderland manager declined a request to take over Russian team Spartak Moscow last month in order to concentrate on the Hammers’ season-ending performance.
