After conversations with Newcastle, Nottingham Forest has a twist in the Yankuba Minteh trade.
Before Yankuba Minteh decided to join Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United reportedly considered a possible transfer for him, according to sources who spoke to Football Insider.
The Gambia international agreed to a five-year contract that would last until 2029, and on Sunday he completed a £33 million transfer to the south coast club.
The 19-year-old forward was also being considered by Forest, who had talks regarding a possible signing.
The two clubs explored a number of deals in an attempt to allay their concerns about running afoul of budgetary constraints.
In spite of this, Elliot Anderson moved from St. James’ Park to the City Ground for £35 million this summer thanks to some clever bargaining by Nottingham and Newcastle.
Odysseas Vlachodimos, meanwhile, took the other route and joined the Nottingham Magpies.
Minteh would have been a good addition for Nottingham Forest.
Despite being placed on loan by Newcastle during the previous season, Minteh made an impression when playing for Feyenoord in the Netherlands.
The winger demonstrated his undeveloped skill at such a young age by scoring 10 goals and dishing out six assists in his 27 Eredivisie games.
Minteh’s attacking prowess would have been a plus for Nottingham’s next campaign, as only three clubs in the Premier League scored fewer goals than Nottingham’s total previous season, and two of those teams were relegated.
Nottingham has been concentrating on bolstering their roster this summer, but four senior players are on the club’s trade list, so others may be leaving.
Nottingham is working hard to prevent any point deductions because of the profit and sustainability restriction, which they are currently projected to fall within, and as a result, two players could be sold today.
