Renewing the deal demonstrates the forward’s faith in the manager and club.
Sheffield Josh Windass, a forward for Wednesday, discussed how Danny Rohl’s influence on his choice to remain at Hillsborough despite having ties to West Bromwich Albion, Derby County, and other teams.

Following rumours of a free transfer to many Championship clubs, notably West Brom and Derby, Windass agreed to new terms with the Owls.

He ended the League One play-off final versus Barnsley at Wembley with the game-winning goal.

In order to guarantee Sheffield Wednesday’s return to the Championship in 2022–2023.

Under Rohl’s extremely capable leadership, Wednesday managed to avoid an immediate relegation back to League One, thanks in part to the 30-year-old’s six goals in the second division last season.

Josh Windass about his choice to continue playing for Sheffield Wednesday
After initially signing with Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Wigan Athletic in January 2020, Windass has made the decision to stay longer with the team. He has now been there for four and a half years.

He currently has 135 appearances for the Owls in all competitions, and he is almost ready to surpass that total in 2024–2025.

The attacker discussed his intention to sign a new contract this summer in an interview conducted at St George’s Park by senior sports writer Rob Staton of BBC Sheffield.

When asked about his summer, Windass responded, “It was fine, I just kept plugging away and training every day.” I always made sure I was prepared for wherever I ended up, and I definitely spoke with Danny (Rohl) toward the end before everything was resolved and the material was returned.

“He is obviously being greedy since there is a ton of material behind the scenes and stuff you see online.

“Finally, Danny managed to, to be honest, Danny made a big case to bring me back so, yeah, I’m really pleased.”

Without a doubt, Windass had options this summer, and he acknowledged that, approximately a week before it was revealed he had signed a new contract, even he considered moving on.

During the interview, the player mentioned that he renewed his contract at Hillsborough in large part because of the management.

Windass remarked, “Obviously, I love the club anyway.”

“I’ve loved playing here since I’ve been here, and I think the fans have enjoyed seeing me play. I also think I have the best manager I’ve ever had right now.

hence I believe it would have been a great mistake for me to quit.”
Windass’s admiration for the forward will make Rohl happy, and he will be hoping that the player can help his club maintain their momentum into the upcoming season.

Rather than choose to stay at West Brom or Derby, Windass stayed at Sheffield Wednesday, and Owls fans will be hoping he can make an immediate impact in August.
When Rohl took over as Hillsborough’s manager the previous season, the Owls had only won three of their first eleven Championship games. They guaranteed themselves a spot in the championship game the next season by finishing the season three points ahead of the bottom three.

Although the German manager’s influence on the field was evident, Windass’ remarks imply that he also had a significant impact off it.
