Here’s how to see the Lions play the Giants in their preseason opener.
The Detroit Lions and New York Giants are set to play their preseason opener on Thursday night, following two days of tough joint practices and a $200,000 punishment for each club as a result of all the fighting.
In the preseason opener, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has all but confirmed that starters won’t play, and those who do, won’t play much. However, the game will be interesting to watch because of the ongoing position fights and the doubts surrounding some of them (No. 2 QB, WR3, will Jake Bates establish himself as the kicker?).
Watching the preseason opener is worthwhile because it features Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker’s first NFL game action. As of this writing, it’s uncertain if Hooker will start on Thursday night or if Nate Sudfeld will, but he should play the entire half.
From the standpoint of kicking strategy, it will be intriguing to see how the Lions and Giants handle the new kickoff structure. Preseason games should probably provide little to nothing in the way of giveaways, but the whole thing is still relatively fresh and intriguing.
Who will the Lions use as a kickoff returner, in your opinion?
