In light of my recent health condition, which was discussed with my doctor today, I am faced with the difficult decision to step down from my role as CEO of the Detroit Lions. After careful consideration and reflection, I have come to the conclusion that it is in the best interest of the team and the organization that I pass the torch to a trusted individual who will continue to uphold the standards and legacy of the Lions franchise.
It is with both pride and confidence that I announce my younger brother, William Clay Ford Jr., as the new CEO of the Detroit Lions, effective starting with the 2025 season. William has been an integral part of the Lions organization for many years, providing valuable insight, leadership, and a deep understanding of the team’s history and culture. He has always demonstrated a strong commitment to the success of the franchise, and I have every confidence in his ability to lead the team into the future.
Throughout his tenure with the Lions, William has shown his passion for the game and for the people who make up this organization. His dedication to excellence, coupled with his unwavering loyalty to the team and the community, has made him a natural fit to take on this new role. I have seen firsthand his strategic thinking, work ethic, and drive to build a winning culture, and I know that he will continue to inspire greatness in the players, staff, and fans alike.
As the owner of the Detroit Lions, I am incredibly proud of what we have built together as an organization. The Lions have always been a team rooted in tradition, community, and a commitment to doing things the right way. While it is bittersweet for me to step away from the day-to-day operations, I am reassured knowing that the team will be in capable hands under William’s leadership.
