After more than two decades of analyzing the NFL from the broadcast booth, Howie Long has decided to return to the field in a new capacity. In a heartfelt announcement, the former defensive end and Fox NFL Sunday analyst shared his decision to leave his beloved role with Fox Sports to pursue a coaching position with the New York Giants.

Long, who became a household name during his Hall of Fame career with the Raiders and later as a key member of the Fox NFL Sunday team, expressed his desire to have a more direct impact on the game of football. “After more than 20 years of analyzing the game from the outside, it’s always been a strong desire of mine to return to the field and make a tangible difference,” Long said. “Being part of a team and helping to shape the future of young athletes is something I’ve always wanted to do.”

For years, Long’s insights, intelligence, and passionate delivery made him one of the most respected analysts in the business. But for him, the thrill of the game on the sideline has always been calling him back.

“I’m excited for this next chapter in my career and am grateful for the incredible opportunity to work with the New York Giants. I’m looking forward to helping the team grow and thrive,” Long added.

The Giants, looking to strengthen their coaching staff, are excited about the wealth of experience Long brings to the table. He will be taking on a role as an assistant coach, focusing on defensive strategy and player development.

Fans of Howie Long can be sure that although his role in front of the camera will be missed, his impact on the game will continue to resonate—this time, from the sideline.
