The New York Giants are taking a closer look at one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
According to a report from Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, the Giants will hold a private workout with Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy in Ann Arbor on Sunday, March 31.
“Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll attending multiple pro days this week,” Leonard posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Had LSU QB Jayden Daniels today, UNC’s Drake Maye tomorrow. Brandon Brown & Shea Tierney were at McCarthy’s pro day, but now comes a closer look.”
McCarthy is widely viewed as one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft class, and according to sources inside the league has been surging up boards during the pre-draft process.
Likewise, former NFL Executive of The Year Randy Mueller believes McCarthy belongs in the conversation as one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s class.
“I think there’s a gap between Caleb [Williams] and the rest of these quarterbacks,” Mueller told me recently. “But, you better put J.J. McCarthy in that top group of quarterbacks, because he may have the biggest ceiling of all of them.
“He crushed it in Indy, and he actually crushed it on film, it’s just taking certain people a while to catch up and realize.”
After passing for 2,991 yards with 22 touchdowns to just four interceptions while leading the Wolverines to a National Championship last season, McCarthy’s former head coach, the Los Angeles Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh offered a ringing endorsement during the NFL Annual Meeting.
“He’s the best quarterback in this draft,” Harbaugh told reporters at the NFL Annual Meeting on Monday morning. “He plays quarterback the best of all the quarterbacks. He’s a winner.”
