Another Nascar competition of Racer Mailbag is coming out December.

The RACER Mailbag welcomes you. You can contact any of RACER’s writers with questions at mailbag@racer.com. While we appreciate your feedback, letters with a question are more likely to be published. Every Monday, questions submitted after 3 p.m. ET are archived for the next week.

Q: Although it seems unlikely that Linus Lundqvist will be able to secure a full-time IndyCar seat in 2025, is an Indy 500 one-off possible? Apart from that, do you know if he has spoken with teams in other categories? To gain some track time, I believe IMSA would be a good choice for, say, an LMP2 team.

Blåder Fabian

Marshall Pruett: According to what I understand, Linus has Dale Coyne left as the only option for open seats today. In order to make sure a title contender has a rocket on standby who can also help with simulator work, engine test days, straightline testing, and some of the other less desirable tasks that veterans frequently want to skip, I’ve directed him to a number of IMSA LMP2 teams and also suggested that he look into options as one of the larger IndyCar teams’ official test and reserve drivers, as we see with teams in F1. Since our last story went live, I haven’t checked in, so I’m not sure what he has. I heard about an IMSA GTD possibility a while back, but I’m not sure what it is.

Dallas’ Gordon

MP: Other people in the IndyCar paddock have also mentioned this intriguing call. The only thing to add is that Dallara’s SF chassis is designed exclusively for road racing and does not have any of the important extra features that would keep drivers safe in the case of an oval collision. Dallara’s IndyCar tubs must be bigger than anything they would create for other open-wheel championships because Graham Rahal is competing in the series and there will be future drivers who are either tall or wide (or tall and wide).

Instead of attempting to modify a design from another client, it makes creating something unique for IndyCar a logical place to start.

Stadelmann, Mark

MP: It would surpass the current status as the only retro-modern open-wheel series in the world by being the most attractive and acoustically pleasing series in the world. However, there is a query: Is it considered unique to replicate something that already exists and was retired almost 50 years ago?

Valdez, Denny

MP: A depressing turn of events. The Baylands Drag Strip and Figure-8 Facility, the first racetrack I can recall going to, is now located beneath the parking lots and big-box stores at the next exit south of our house. After Track X was sold and transformed into something else, there are far too many stories like yours, mine, and those of others who loved going there and are now only left with memories.
