Louisville Football: Transfer Portal Tracker
The news center for the Louisville football transfer portal is called Cardinal Authority. Who is present? Who’s heading out? Who are the intended victims?
In college football, the transfer portal continues to be the major narrative.
And in the center of all the action on the portal is the University of Louisville football program. The Cardinals concluded their first season under head coach Jeff Brohm with a 10-4 record after losing to USC on December 27 in the Holiday Bowl.
However, the transfer portal and the past few weeks for the Cardinals have been the center of attention lately.
Brohm was hired a year ago and then proceeded to add 25 transfers to his roster for this season. Many of those transfers played a key role in this season for the Cardinals and the expectation is the staff will be just as active this offseason with the portal.
“(The portal) definitely helped us this past year, even when we brought in guys as late as after spring practice,” Brohm said. “That was very beneficial to our team. So we’ll continue to be active; that is the way college football is set up. And we want to make sure that we you know for guys that want to be here and play at a high level.
“We want to provide them with the best teammates they can to help them win.”
And the prospects have been rolling in since then.
The Cardinals currently have the No. 6 transfer portal class in the 247Sports Portal Rankings with 24 confirmed commitments.
It’s like free agency in the NCAA with the portal opening on Dec. 4. The portal window for football has been reduced from 45 days to 30, per a new ruling by the NCAA Division I Council, which means the portal closed on Jan. 3. Graduate transfers aren’t restricted by the portal window. A player can still remove their name from the portal and stay at their respective program but most players who enter the portal do not return to their previous school.
This will serve as the Cardinal Authority Transfer Portal Headquarters where we will track Louisville players transferring out, new additions for the Cardinals, portal offers and interesting names that pop up.

SCHOLARSHIPS
The most important note before considering who is leaving and who is coming, is how many stops does Louisville even have open on the roster?
There isn’t an official number available just yet on where the Cardinals stand, but based on what we know, Louisville is estimated to be at 50 scholarships (after the latest defections). But the Cardinals also have 14 high school seniors signees in the Class of 2024 and currently have 16 transfers committed.
The NCAA limits FBS programs to 85 scholarship players a year on its roster.
So, what are the positions of need for the Cardinals? Don’t be shocked if Louisville takes at least one transfer at every position, but there will be two or three tight ends on the list, along with a veteran quarterback, several offensive linemen and perhaps a couple of running backs.
To put it frankly, Louisville will be very active in the portal again. So, expect a few more departures from the current roster
