Louisville key transfer target set for rivals move on blockbuster trade…

Louisville transfer Tre White has committed to Illinois.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound sophomore averaged 12.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists this season for the Cardinals, starting in 26 games and shooting 45.6% from the field.

White joins the max exodus of transfers after the firing of head coach Kenny Payne. During his first season with Louisville White was the fourth leading scorer on the team and second in rebounding.

White posted  a career-high 29 points and 14 rebounds against m Clemson eclipsing 20 points on four different occasions. White also recorded four double-doubles on the year and quickly became one of the top available forwards in the transfer portal.

He now becomes the second transfer for Brad Underwood and staff after landing Mercer transfer Jake Davis.

Chattanooga transfer Sam Alexis announced he was down to five schools last week. Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Providence, and Xavier made the cut for the 6-foot-9, 225-pound big man out of Apopka (Fla.).

“Those five schools were in contact with me the most throughout the whole process,” Alexis said. “I like how some of the schools play.”

Out of the five schools, Alexis says he only has two visits scheduled to Florida (this Friday) and Providence (next week on Monday). He discussed his thoughts on each contending program with 247Sports:

Florida: “As a kid growing up in the state, their school was the school to be at. I like how they run their offense and the Gators have a lot of history there with Al Horford and Joakim Noah. I talk to Korey McCray the most from there.”

Georgia: “I like their school because Asa Newell was in my grassroots program and we were close. That relationship is there and I like their system. I also like Mike White.”

Mississippi State: “They are hard guys. They are always reaching out and they wanted me before I committed to Chattanooga. Their big Tolu Smith was top ten in usage rate this season.”

Providence: “I like how they play. They play a lot like how I did at Chattanooga. They give the balls to the bigs more. They play in a lot of ball screen actions and I love Kim English. He is a great guy. I feel like I can relate to him because he is a young coach and we probably come from the same background.”

Xavier: “My goal is to get to the NBA. Sean Miller has a history of bringing guys in at my position and getting them to the league. The fact that he has so many connections is crazy.”

Alexis says he is unsure of when he wants to make a decision. He plans to take both visits within the next week to see if he likes either of the schools.

“If I am not feeling both schools the way I want to, then I will probably schedule some more visits,” Alexis said. “I will probably decide after that.”

An All-SOCON Third Team and Defensive Team performer, Alexis is one of the top undecided frontcourt players remaining in the transfer portal.
