Ahead of their Championship match at Cardiff City (12.30pm) tomorrow, Sky Sports’ EFL analyst Don Goodman said that Ipswich Town’s defensive record ‘is a bit shocking for a side vying for automatic promotion’.

With just ten regular season games remaining, the recently promoted Blues have a record of, which puts them in second place in the standings.

Although Kieran McKenna’s team leads the division in goals scored by a single goal, they have given up 16 more than league leaders Leicester.

Speaking through King Casino Bonus, Goodman added, “Ipswich’s defensive record is a bit shocking for a team going for automatic promotion!”

“They’ll probably have the worst defensive record of any promoted team in history if they automatically qualify for the Premier League. Leeds United and Leicester City are two examples of teams in the top two that are typically reliable and successful in both areas.

“Ipswich leak goals, but they typically outscore the opposition, so you always have a chance to turn around games when you have that kind of goal output available to you.”

“Tuesday night’s match against Bristol City was amazing (Town won 3-2 in thrilling fashion late on). As I review it in preparation for covering them against Cardiff City this coming weekend, I find myself thinking, “Wow, Ipswich look nervous and are not flowing,” during the first half. Should that be their caliber, they will simply slip out of the top two.

“Suddenly, Ipswich came to life as Bristol City scored. I’m really excited to see them on Saturday because they are such a terrific squad to watch, even though the second half was really exciting.”

Town now sits three points behind leaders Leicester, two points ahead of Leeds in third, and eight points ahead of Southampton in fourth (who have a game in hand).

“You have to say, yes, the title is up for grabs now,” stated Goodman. “You have to admit it when a team is only three points behind the other.
