Cameron Sutton was cut by the Detroit Lions while authorities sought to apprehend him for domestic abuse.
Detroit While they continue to look for the defensive back to fulfill a Florida domestic abuse warrant, the Detroit Lions dismissed Cameron Sutton on Thursday.
Without providing any further information, the team revealed the relocation on the social media network X.
Finding Sutton, a seven-year veteran who recently concluded his first season with the Lions and helped them make it to the NFC championship game for the first time in thirty-two years, is something the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, which covers Tampa, has sought for assistance with.
The third-degree felony of domestic battery by strangulation, which carries a maximum five-year prison sentence, is the subject of the warrant. According to the sheriff’s office, Sutton might be operating a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with a Florida license plate.
Around five in the morning on March 7, the Detroit Free Press reported, the department responded to a call regarding domestic abuse in progress between the 29-year-old Sutton and a female.
According to the publication, authorities believe Sutton has left Tampa and issued the warrant based on the evidence they discovered.
It wasn’t apparent if Sutton has legal representation. David Canter, Sutton’s agent, did not respond to a text message sent to him right away.
Although the sheriff’s department’s warrant was largely obscured, it did name a house he owned in Dunedin, Florida, which is located on the Gulf Coast, and property records identify him as the owner.
A little over a year ago, the Lions signed Sutton to a three-year, $33 million contract, seeing him as a crucial player to add in the offseason.
For the first time since 1957, he assisted the team in winning two postseason games and a division title in the same postseason for the first time in thirty years.
Sutton made a career-high 65 tackles and one interception while starting all 17 games during the regular season. In addition, he started each of the three postseason games.
For the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021–2022 Sutton started 31 games and recorded 95 tackles along with five interceptions. The Jonesboro, Georgia-born former Tennessee star was selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Over his career, he has nine interceptions in 101 games.
